Instrument Rating Course Description


The Instrument Rating builds a new set of skills that gives the pilot much greater flexibility and increased confidence.


Training Prerequisites:
Prior to starting Instrument training the student must hold a Private or Commercial Pilot’s Certificate and have at least a third class medical certificate, and 50 hours of pilot in command cross-country flight time, however, since cross-country flights are flown during the training, approximately 47 hours of pilot in command cross-country time is acceptable. 

Stage I:
Your training will concentrate on basic attitude instrument flying, VOR, NDB, GPS orientation, interception and tracking.

Stage II:
During this stage of your training you will continue to increase your proficiency and skill level while learning about IFR cross-country navigation and terminal approach procedures.

FAA Instrument Knowledge Examination:
Prior to starting stage II of instrument training you will be required to successfully complete the FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge Examination.
